American Hofmann is adding an Electrical Controls Engineer who is proficient in designing Electrical Hardware and Control Systems for our Global Industrial Balancing Machines. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and experience with AutoCAD Electrical software. The Electrical Controls Engineer will work with a multi-discipline Engineering team and reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Having PLC programming experience is a plus.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design Electrical Control systems, Control Cabinet layouts & Wiring for Industrial Machines
  • Utilize AutoCAD Electrical for designing schematics
  • Bill of Materials generation for procurement of Electrical Hardware Components
  • Perform Short-Circuit calculations, SCCR, Conduit Sizing, and load distribution analysis
  • Design Safety circuit on the machine according to required safety codes
  • Program and Configure VFD’s, optimizing machine operation and energy efficiency
  • Program PLC’s, Safety Devices, Remote I/O units and Drives on the machine
  • Support Electrical Assembly team during machine wiring and machine start-up
  • Assist in house Testing team in troubleshooting machines & support during Customer run-off
  • Provide remote technical support to Service team for in the field Customer equipment.

Travel Requirement

Occasional travel may be required for onsite customer support when necessary (less than 10%)

Skills / Knowledge Requirements

  • AutoCAD Electrical fluency
  • Electrical hardware design for machine electrical Cabinets according to UL508A
  • Design of Safety circuits for machines & perform Risk Assessments
  • Ability to interpret international Electrical Codes/Standards: NEC, NERC, CSA, IEC, CE
  • Proficient configuring, programming, and troubleshooting VFD’s
  • Sound understanding of AC and DC electrical theory and practical application
  • Knowledge on I/O Devices, Motion control devices, pneumatics, and Safety Devices.
  • Hands on experience with programming Allen Bradley, Omron or Siemens PLC’s is a plus
  • Strong Analytical skills with problem solving mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering strongly desired
  • 5+ years relevant Electrical Engineering Experience with Machine Design
